This is a interesting story from Gandhi's life that i remeber today on Gandhi Jeyanthi and wanted to share with everone.
During childhood, Gandhi was always been afraid of dark night and ghosts. He believed that ghosts live in dark and would catch him on.
One day night when it was very dark, gandhi is trying to move from one room to another. As he stepped out of the room, his feet seemed to turn to lead and his heart began to beat like a drum.
The maidservant, Ramba, standing near the door, listened this with a laugher and asked him, "What happen child?".
Gandhi replied, "I am afraid terribly".
Ramba asked again, "Afraid? Of what?".
"I'm afraid of ghosts in the dark!" Gandhi replied with a scared face.
Ramba patted him with affection and said, "Child donot afraid. Just say Rama, Rama*! Ghosts will get afraid even to come near you. They won't touch even a hair of your head. Rama will safeguard you".
Ramba's words gave Gandhi good courage. He started saying "Rama, Rama, Rama..." and he left the room without fear. From that day onwards, Gandhi never felt afraid. He strongly believed that Rama will safeguard him from the ghosts and any dangers.
This gave Gandhiji courage throughout his life...
Even when he died he whispered the name of Rama.

* Rama is a hindu god who is said to be a saint otherwise. There is a famous ethic in hinduism called "Ramayana" which is about Rama's life.

Yes Sure. The lesson here is, "if we believe in god, nothing can frigten or disturb us!". Religions are only the vehicles to understand and to reach the divine, the eternity. God is a unique power. No matter what religion we follow god will see only our honesty n faith. For the almighty all the people are one.

This is a question about Ganhdi. Did faith affect his actions?
Its not that faith affects his actions!! There are many characters which made the greatest personality Gandhi..! and courage is one of them..!!! And the story is about how he has grown courageous!!
The moral of the story here is if we teach anything (here courage) to our children, he will grow with what he learned..!
Mary's question is a fantastic one. Yes, Faith does affect one's actions , and this is true with everyone. It is the basis of belief that provides the will power and confidence to one , to action upon. It is an inherent source of perception that drives relations and actions . One's faith in God restricts his drive to do evil , a spouse's faith in each other drives a marriage , a boss's faith in his employees drives leadership and so on ... KJ
